This year, Sister Cyndi Golden, WGM, and Brother Tim Groves, WGP, have selected a meaningful cause for Eastern Star members in Virginia to support: Project Lifesaver International. All donations will stay in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
What is Project Lifesaver?
Project Lifesaver is a 501(c)(3) community-based, public safety, nonprofit organization. They work directly with law enforcement, fire/rescue, and caregivers to protect, and when necessary, quickly locate, individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering. The organization was founded in 1999 in Chesapeake, VA.
Caring for someone with dementia is incredibly hard. I felt like I couldn’t leave my husband’s side. Project Lifesaver gave me incredible peace of mind. With their tracking bracelet on him, I knew that if something happened, I could make one phone call, and my local law enforcement office would be there to help me find him. It didn’t take away his condition, but I felt better, knowing he was safer.”

Chapter Ideas:
Virginia Eastern Star Chapters are encouraged to get involved by raising money for Project Lifesaver and by spreading the word about its mission. Here are some ideas of how to incorporate our Special Project into your chapter activities.
- Invite a representative from your local law enforcement agency, participating in the program, to come to your meeting and speak. Click this link Project Lifesaver Chapter List for a list of those agencies.
- Know someone who benefitted from the program? Invite them to a Chapter dinner and have them share their experience with your members.
- Work with a local Project Lifesaver agency to help bring awareness to caregivers about the program.
- Purchase a bag of lifesavers to have at meetings to reward all those $1 donations to the project.
- Make a chapter gift to the program. Special recognition will be provided participating chapters.
